WHOSE WORD WILL YOU BELIEVE
14 After Hezekiah received the letter from the messengers and read it, he went up to the LORD’s Temple and spread it out before the LORD. 15 And Hezekiah prayed this prayer before the LORD: “O LORD, God of Israel, you are enthroned between the mighty cherubim! You alone are God of all the kingdoms of the earth. You alone created the heavens and the earth. 16 Bend down, O LORD, and listen! Open your eyes, O LORD, and see! Listen to Sennacherib’s words of defiance against the living God.
17 “It is true, LORD, that the kings of Assyria have destroyed all these nations. 18 And they have thrown the gods of these nations into the fire and burned them. But of course, the Assyrians could destroy them! They were not gods at all—only idols of wood and stone shaped by human hands. 19 Now, O LORD our God, rescue us from his power; then all the kingdoms of the earth will know that you alone, O LORD, are God.”
2 Kings 19:14-19 (NLT)
Brethren, there are days when we just wake up to bad news. Sometimes from the hospital, workplace, companies you have applied to for job offer, family members, financial institutions and others. It just slows you down and messes up your entire day, putting so much fear and unnecessary anxiety in you. Such was the headache of King Hezekiah, who was faithful to God and served him alone and did what was right in God’s sight (2 Kings 18:5-8). This only comes to tell us that, as children of God we are not immune to challenges. But how you react to the challenges is what matters. King Hezekiah, received series of threatening messages from the Assyrian King Sennacherib. Hezekiah not wanting any war, gave him all the gold and silver found in the temple of the Lord and in the treasuries of the royal palace (2 Kings 18:14-16). Even with all the gold and silver sent to him, the Assyrian King will not stop advancing towards Judah.
We read in verse 17 of chapter 18 that he sent messengers to King Hezekiah to surrender or face destruction. Unfortunately, the messengers delivered the message in the presence of the entire public (2 Kings 18:26-32) just to cause commotion. But we read that “But the people were silent and answered him not a word, for the king’s command was, “Do not answer him” (2 Kings 18:36). When the message got to the King, we read that “he tore his clothes and put on burlap and went into the Temple of the Lord (2 Kings 19:1). Note that he started fasting and praying to God for deliverance and also sent messengers to the Prophet Isaiah. Because this was the second threat from the Assyrian King.
In verse 14 of Chapter 19 he received the third message from the Assyrian King in the form of a letter. And just as he did the second time, “he went up to the LORD’s Temple and spread it out before the LORD”. Brethren, where do you go or whom do you approach when problems start popping up. When you have received that bad report from your hospital or from the embassy or from that ministry or that agency or company that rejected you, where do you go and whom do you report to first. King Hezekiah, did one simple act of faith, “spread the letter before God”. Is that what you do, or you start call your family and friends and start complaining or lamenting to them. My brother, my sister, you need to start acting like King Hezekiah, refuse such negative messages or reports until God says he can’t deal with it. And even when God says no, remind Jesus of what that woman in Mark 15:27 said and he acted on the woman’s request. She said “Lord, but even dogs are allowed to eat the scraps that fall beneath their masters' table.”
God is looking at our faith levels to bless us. “But without faith it is impossible to please him; for he that comes to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him” (Hebrews 11:6).
On three occasions between 2021 to 2023, I was refused by a certain country’s embassy. In all occasions I had to learn with pain in my spirit to humble myself and go before God with thankfulness even in the face of rejection. Anytime I left that embassy, I went straight to the house of God before returning to my office. Those were painful moments. Within that period, I received a prophetic word from a man of God that a time is coming when I will be spending two currencies, based on the currencies I find in the envelope he gave me. God rewarded me with a visa to one of those countries and I believe the other is yet to follow. Throughout my process to the country I live in now, every fund was provided for by people around me. God, reward me without sweat.
Brethren, refuse to believe negative reports or news and learn to go to God first when you receive such messages. God will come through for you.
Shalom and Peace to you.
