WHERE IS YOUR HELP FROM?
“For the eyes of the LORD range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.”
2 Chronicles 16:9 (NIV)
David said in Psalm 121:1–2 “I lift up my eyes to the mountains, where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth”. Beloved in the Lord, at times when we are desperate to come out of a problem or situation, we turn to seek temporary help from people around us, rather than turning to God for a permanent solution. This is because we know the ways of God will delay, and God will always want us to learn lessons from every challenge and surrender to him totally before we see deliverance. But because we do not want to surrender, we chose the shortcut by seeking help from men.
However, have you noticed that anything men have their hands involved in, always have strings attached to it? Even if you know there are no strings attached, psychologically, you tell yourself I have to pay back in another way someday. That is why Jesus will say in Luke 14:12–14, what good is it when you give a dinner and invite only those who can afford it, but rather invite those who cannot repay you back. God’s help has no strings attached. In his commentary on 2 Chronicles 16:9, Dr. Charles Stanley wrote “Although King Asa had trusted the Lord’s help against the Ethiopians (2 Chronicles 14:8-15), he failed when it came time to confront King Baasha of Israel (1 Kings 15:16-22). Instead of turning to God, Asa offered the Lord’s treasury to the King of Aram in exchange for a treaty and military help. Though this appeared to solve his problem, its success was short-lived (2 Chronicles 16:5,7-9). Trusting God can be a moment-by-moment pursuit. But we must do this in every situation, no matter how big or small”.
Brethren, where and whom do you get your help? In Isaiah 42:8, God tells us “I am the LORD; that is my name! I will not yield my glory to another or my praise to idols”. You might say, but there is no problem or harm in seeking help from a brother or sister. Oh Yes, I know that. The question is, did you speak to God about the situation, and did he approve of the help from that individual? Do you know God still speak to us through his word and through his servants? Hebrews 13:8 tells us, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever”. God has not changed, he is still the same God inviting all who are heavily burdened and he will give them rest (Matthew 11:28).
Today, the young and even some elderly persons are seeking help from all sort of places. From shrines, occult groups, social and immoral branded groups, etc. Brethren, we will not leave out religious leaders. Those appointed by God to lead his people into righteousness are the worse of culprit. James tells us in James 3:1 of the reward of preachers, “we who teach will be judged more strictly”. Therefore, continue misleading your flock. People of God, strive to seek Him and Him alone, and find rest for your soul with no strings attached.
Shalom and Peace to you.
