THE LORD’S BLESSING
Numbers 6:22–27 (NLT)
22 Then the LORD said to Moses, 23 “Tell Aaron and his sons to bless the people of Israel with this special blessing:
24 ‘May the LORD bless you and protect you.
25 May the LORD smile on you and be gracious to you.
26 May the LORD show you his favor and give you his peace.’
27 Whenever Aaron and his sons bless the people of Israel in my name, I myself will bless them.”
In today’s sermon Pastor Jentezen Franklin, preaches from a portion of his new book “The Power of Short Prayers”. He shares with us a prayer we are all familiar with, which he keeps praying till today. Not because he is a Pastor, but a husband, father, and grandfather.
He encourages us to take our positions as priestly people of God our Father under the new covenant and bless our families each day. This prayer was given directly from God to mankind through his servant Moses. It is also popularly known as the benediction, and prayed normally by the Officiating Minister or Priest when closing any Christian gathering. Today, we will learn that, this prayer is not only for official functions, but a prayer to be prayed over ourselves, children and families every day. There is a promise which God himself added at the end of the prayer, which states “Whenever Aaron and his sons bless the people of Israel in my name, I myself will bless them” (Num. 6:27). God promises to bless us himself.
Brothers and sisters, I am excited by this message because, it ties in with what I have been speaking about since the beginning of the year. That God want us to strengthen our home churches, i.e. devotions within our various homes. Because if the church in the home gets better, there will be less problems in families and the societies at large.
I saw a news headline this week which said “Schools that cultivate the mind but neglect spiritual education leave children unanchored in a challenging world. Young people are hungering for meaning. A lack of spiritual education in childhood can reverberate across a lifetime”. My question which I posed to Christian parents out there was, “how are you as a parent ensuring to fill in the gabs left by the schools your children attend”. For me, I believe the solution is home church, daily home devotions or home bible studies. Unfortunately, many of our churches today are over burdened with challenges, such that sometimes you can’t even get the Pastors for a one-on-one counselling.
Many young parents in our generation enjoyed such opportunities and blessings with their parents, but are denying their own children. Brethren, what you are doing is cutting something generational.
As we listen to this sermon, I pray that it will bring you renewal of mind and heart, so that you will start or renew the home church or family devotions. So that you can start blessing your family. I encourage you also to print this prayer out, stick it on your door and pray it every time before leaving home.
Shalom and Peace to you.
