22 The next day the crowd that had stayed on the far shore saw that the disciples had taken the only boat, and they realized Jesus had not gone with them. 23 Several boats from Tiberias landed near the place where the Lord had blessed the bread and the people had eaten. 24 So when the crowd saw that neither Jesus nor his disciples were there, they got into the boats and went across to Capernaum to look for him. 25 They found him on the other side of the lake and asked, “Rabbi, when did you get here?”
26 Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, you want to be with me because I fed you, not because you understood the miraculous signs. 27 But don’t be so concerned about perishable things like food. Spend your energy seeking the eternal life that the Son of Man can give you. For God the Father has given me the seal of his approval.”
28 They replied, “We want to perform God’s works, too. What should we do?”
29 Jesus told them, “This is the only work God wants from you: Believe in the one he has sent.”
John 6:22–29 (NLT)
Everyone has a reason for going to a specific church to worship. While some attend church to seek for their spiritual needs, others also go to church for their material needs. Oh, and some even go there to find their future partners. Brethren, no one is here to accuse you of your motive. We can see from today’s reading, how the crowd went seeking for Jesus, not because they wanted spiritual food, but physical food to fill their stomachs. Unfortunately for them, they were dealing with the all-knowing God, who knew their intentions and the purpose for which they were seeking Him. It is the same in our time. However, Jesus in his response tell us the most important thing we need to do. Today, Rev. Fr. Blessed Ambang Njume (a Catholic Priest from Cameroon) throws more light on our scripture reading. I pray that the Holy Spirit will speak to you hearts and press this message down so that you will re-evaluate your purpose for seeking God. For the scripture tells us in Matthew 6:33 (ESV); “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Let’s now listen to today’s message.
Shalom and Peace to you.
