24 Jesus told them another parable: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field. 25 But while everyone was sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat, and went away. 26 When the wheat sprouted and formed heads, then the weeds also appeared.
27 “The owner’s servants came to him and said, ‘Sir, didn’t you sow good seed in your field? Where then did the weeds come from?’
28 “‘An enemy did this,’ he replied.
“The servants asked him, ‘Do you want us to go and pull them up?’
29 “‘No,’ he answered, ‘because while you are pulling the weeds, you may uproot the wheat with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest. At that time I will tell the harvesters: First collect the weeds and tie them in bundles to be burned; then gather the wheat and bring it into my barn.’”
Matthew 13:24–30 (NIV)
In the whole of Chapter 13 of Matthew, Jesus talks about the Kingdom of God. This kingdom Jesus talks about has been established amongst us already, based on the kingdom which is established in heaven. Jesus came to re-establish this lost Kingdom which he was telling the Pharisees in Luke 17:20-21 - “One day the Pharisees asked Jesus, “When will the Kingdom of God come?” Jesus replied, “The Kingdom of God can’t be detected by visible signs. You won’t be able to say, ‘Here it is!’ or ‘It’s over there!’ For the Kingdom of God is already among you.” Unfortunately, some are still waiting for the kingdom which has already been established to come. Brethren, our focus today is on the good seeds, and the weeds which the devil or enemy came to sow amongst the good ones.
The first important principle I want you to note here is, “the man sowed good seeds”. Child of God, what kind of seeds have you sowed or are you sowing in your family, marriage, children, the neighborhood, the church, and the workplace. For a whole week, in the month of March, we treated Parenting in a godly way (especially for the 21st Century parents who are in the diaspora). You can search for those episodes on our YouTube page and listen to them again.
Brethren, the fact is that, the movement of people from one place to another cannot be control now or in the future. Everyone who moves to another location is just looking for be better opportunity therefore will do everything possible to survive. Unfortunately, with the current displacements of some Muslim dominated countries due to uprising and conflicts, we have noticed many of them now taking shelter in Christian dominated countries. This is a humanitarian crisis, and our bible instructs us in Leviticus 19:33-34 and Deuteronomy 10:18-19 that “When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them; they must be treated as your native-born.” Almost every European country is opening their borders to shelter some of our Muslim brethren. Now, let me take the opportunity to issue a caveat from this point before I am being misquoted. We are not saying all Muslims are bad or evil. I personally have met some wonderful ones who care more than a Christian brother or sister. Personally, I come from a lineage of Muslims but my dad did not continue with that religion. Now let’s make progress.
Unfortunately for these Christian dominate countries, acceptance of Christianity by the younger generation seem to be on the decline. Matters of spirituality are on the bottom of their check-list. But, thanks to God, we are beginning to see some revivals happening in some of these countries, therefore there is hope for the younger generation. However, this light of hope can be easily extinguished due to the growing number of Muslims in these countries, whose younger populations seem more. I once witnessed a failed pick-pocketing by a group of young Muslim boys which shocked me. In the heart of Europe. I was told, by some people, this has become normal on their streets now. Brethren, a Christian brother also told me how one of their church members who is a parent, was invited over to the police station because their son made a case against them of not allowing him to have some independence. Apparently, this young fellow was influenced by a friend who is non-Christian. Brethren, as we are mixing up during to migration, there is very little you can do in terms of keeping your children away from other people. The kids will meet in school, at the play grounds, market area, other social centers and neighborhoods. What can you do to stop some of these social and non-Christian influences on your children? Now, this is the bad seeds planted and mixed up with the good wheat which was planted, when the servants had gone to sleep. A little sleep, brethren, and the devil will catch you unaware.
Brethren, this is where you also get to know whether you planted good or bad seeds. In the parable, the good master said, “Let both grow together until harvest”. Dear believer, the season between a seed sprouting up to harvest time is no joke. In your small garden, if you sowed good seeds and weeds sprout up with them, it will be easy to identify the weeds and try to pull them out, sometimes you make a mistake by pulling out the good plant. Other times, after removing the weeds, they sprout up again. That is why the master said leave them to grow together till harvest. The master was simply telling us, during harvest time, that is where you will be able to gather the good plants from the weeds. I want to let you know that in human terms, what you do during that season of waiting till harvest is very important. Plants may take some months or few years to reach harvest, but convert that scenario into human growth lifecycle.
What I am trying to drive at is that, within that period you will need a lot of patience and determination to rise up from your sleep and begin to apply the Blood of Jesus over your children and family. The body of Christ needs to also rise up and believe God for a Holy Spirit clean up in other to save these kids. I can tell you, your complaints and shouting will mean nothing in that season of waiting till harvest. The devil will tell you, give it up; you lost that boy or girl, he or she is out of control. But I came with a message of HOPE. That James 4:7 tells us “resist the devil and he will flee from you”. Enter that secret closet and begin to cry out to God to revive your kids and plead the Blood of Jesus over them and the entire family. We do not want our children to be wrongly influenced, but rather they should be godly influencers in the schools, and neighborhoods. Because the system of government cannot even protect them, but make matters worse. Brethren, within at period, your prayers can also save and revive those other kids (the friends of you sons and daughters) and win them over to Christ Jesus. I see a revival breakout in the family of those kids and they are worn over to Christianity. Because it is not just about your children who are involved here, we are talking about a whole generation of young folks, who are being dragged into the pits of hell by various social challenges.
Once again, you cannot deal or force matters with your own carnal mind or the teachings of the world. You are already a failure if you try that, because others have walked that path before and unfortunately lost their children to even death. I also came to encourage you, who has given up on fighting that battle of praying for that child of yours that, Romans 8:31 tells us “If God be for us, who can be against us?”. Rejoice in the Lord God because there is hope. For we have a promise in Proverbs 22:6 that, if you trained up your children in the way of God, they will never be lost. They can go all the way to the pits of hell, but one day, one day; the light of our resurrected Jesus will shine on them with liberation. It doesn’t matter if that child is involved in drugs, addicted to other substances, alcohol over doze, broken heart, atheist or whatever the devil has thrown at them, the Blood of Jesus will wash them clean and spotless. Just do the needful as I told you, gird your loins and begin to cry out like crazy to our Jehovah Jira.
Brethren, some of us who were raised in very strict Christian homes have also wandered, but thanks to God for the good seed which was planted, and the relentless prayers of a praying mother, we came back. There was a time, I walked with my head always down, I was ashamed to walk amongst my own friends that I grew up with. I will quickly run home after church closes. But my Jesus, lifted my head up again. And I walk with confidence and courage in Him.
In closing, I want to share with you a testimony from Free Chapel in the USA, during their most recent baptism ceremony. Anytime they stream those baptism services, I cry. I am touched by the moving stories of the people; some were in prison and others in serious addictions and others had attempted suicides on countless occasions. However, the light of Jesus Christ came through for them. Their stories also remind me of many of such people who are still suffering out there and have lost hope. What are you and I doing to bring them the light of Christ’s hope? That is why I said, it is not just about your children, but think about other families as well.
Shalom and Peace to you,
