WEEK 3 (DAY 15 – 21)
CHOOSING WHAT GOD TELLS US
“Then he took his staff in his hand; and he chose for himself five smooth stones from the brook, and put them in a shepherd’s bag, in a pouch which he had, and his sling was in his hand. And he drew near to the Philistine.”
(1 Samuel 17:40)
In the text above, we read that before he approached Goliath, David took his staff – that is his symbol of authority as a shepherd. As Christians our symbol of authority is the bible. It is our sword or call it weapon. If I may ask, where have you been keeping your symbol of authority for the past years? During and after this fast, ensure to keep it close to you. Refer to it daily and especially when about taking major decisions. Let me tell you, there is what we call “sweatless” victory. Victories that God will give you because you obeyed and trusted him. Am taking about jobs you have not even applied for or without going through interviews, appointments which you have been denied several times, documentations which you have been refused many times and others.
David also “chose for himself five smooth stones from the brook, and put them in his shepherd’s bag”. This is what God spoke to me about, let the people write down five important breakthroughs they look forward to as they seek my face this 21-days. They should believe and trust me that it will be done for them. Trust me, you will want to obey God on whatever he tells you to do, if you want victory and breakthrough in your life. The mother of Jesus told the servants in John 2:5 “Whatever He says to you, do it.” One thing I have come to believe is that Jesus said we should pray to him about everything, not somethings. He said everything. “…If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.” (John 14:14) Keep those requests in your bible, pray about them every time until you breakthrough. Some of us will receive breakthroughs instantly during the fast, others, maybe later and still more to come over a period.
The word of God says “And he (David) drew near to the Philistine”. David was not afraid so he advanced towards Goliath, unlike the Israelite soldiers who kept their distance for 40-days anytime the giant came out. Oh yes, my friend, I understand you have been fighting this battle for years and even attending big crusades and prayer meetings. You even have the phone numbers of bishops, prophets and others. My question is, how has the situation been and whom did you put your faith and trust in. I just came to encourage you, have faith in God and let us start the process again, walk and pray together until our prayers pierce the heavens. Many of us do not experience breakthroughs because our intentions are to manipulate God (which obviously you can’t) or we only approach God when we want to fulfill our selfish desires (read James 4:3). And that is why we attend crusades and camp meetings. Let’s change this attitude and begin to yearn more for God, put aside religiosity and turn to spirituality, ask the holy spirit to empower us to seek God more deeply. Let us fight a good fight of the faith (1 Timothy 6:12) this 21-days for ourselves, spouses, children and generations after us.
Prayer:
Father in heaven, we love you and are grateful to you for answered prayers. We believe now that you hear and answer us when we ask rightly. According to your word in John 16:24, you said we should ask and we will receive, in order that our joy may be full. We therefore ask you this week to help us to choose right from this point forward, for our future, our spouses, our children and generations after us. Let us testify to this and say ‘truly our lives have transformed after this encounter’. In Jesus’ mighty name we have prayed.
Amen.
