DAY 10: PRAYER FOCUS
BELIEVING FOR MY CHURCH
They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.
Acts 2:42 (NIV)
Brethren, how devoted are you to the things of spirituality. How committed are you to the body of Christ and to fellowshipping with others from other denomination? How committed are you to this movement of revival - this 21-days prayer and fasting? In Daniel 10:12 the angel of the Lord said to Daniel, “Do not fear, Daniel, for from the first day that you set your heart to understand, and to humble yourself before your God, your words were heard; and I have come because of your words”. In the same way many of you made this commitment to God, to fast and pray for 21-days for a fresh outlook in your lives and in the migrant community. I want to assure you that God has heard your request and the angels are bringing answers.
To fast and pray, begins with a psychological commit. When a corporate fast is called, there is always a cause. Like David will say in 1 Samuel 17:29 “…Is there not a cause?”. There was a cause when the apostles in Acts 2 after being filled with the Holy spirit started speaking courageously with the people and the result was three thousand people saved, baptized and added to their number. There was a cause when Esther proclaimed a 3-day (72 hour) fast for God to preserve the Jewish people of her time. The end result was a turnaround and a counter letter for all the Jews to defend themselves when an earlier letter was issued by Haman for all Jews to be killed. The fast also brought elevation in the life of Mordecai. In Ezra chapter 8 we read that Ezra proclaimed a fast for ‘protection and direction’ and God answered their request. Ezra said “I was ashamed to ask the king for soldiers and horsemen to protect us from enemies on the road, because we had told the king, “The gracious hand of our God is on everyone who looks to him, but his great anger is against all who forsake him.” (Ezra 8:22).
Beloved of God, there is power in praying together and there is power in praying alone. If there was no power in fellowship and prayers, Jesus wouldn’t have said “For where two or more are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” (Matthew 18:20). Note that God has heard our course for this fast and many other fast going on around the world. Believe me, it is our fast as a church (Christian faithful) that has caused God not to destroy the world by now. Never under estimate the power of corporate fasting and prayer. We pray today that there will be a revival in the Christian community. A revival on our pulpits, so that our Spiritual Leaders will preach and teach the truth of God without fear or favor. That God will make all our spiritual leaders’ holy men and women. We all know of the shakeup which happened among the Christian community in the US last year, when many well-known men of God had to step down because of their secret lives. Instead of rejoicing in their downfall, channel your energy into praying for them, for many of them also carry burdens. Jesus said “so that they also may be sanctified [set apart, dedicated, made holy] in [Your] truth” (John 17:19). Note that if the pulpit is not holy, we wouldn’t have holy people (the church). “And they devoted themselves to the teachings of the apostles” as our text today said. Therefore, let us always pray for our spiritual leaders that they may live holy lives.
Shalom.
